Tecate has undergone a gastronomic renaissance and today it is the perfect place to take the first steps into the wine world. Discover the wineries of the northern valleys and enjoy gourmet food. The lesser known side of the Baja California Wine Trail.
The Magical Town of Tecate is the ideal place to start touring the Baja California Wine Trail. Not as famous as the Guadalupe Valley, the northern part of the Wine Trail, extending from Tecate to the South, offers perfect experiences for both those who are learning about wine and experts.
From #Tecate to the valleys in the South
The first wineries are located on the outskirts of Tecate, inviting locals and visitors to explore a universe of flavors that will leave you longing for more as you go on South on the Wine Trail. Wines here are perfect to get your first taste of the world of wine: whites, roses and fresh reds, fruity and aromatic. On Sundays, you will find whole families eating at Cava Garcia with a good wine.
The Magical Town of Tecate is known as the northern gate to the Baja California Wine Trail. South of Tecate, beyond hills topped with capricious rocks, hide two little valleys: the Tanama Valley and the Las Palmas Valley. Two fertile valleys, with ideal conditions for wine growing, are producing some of the most interesting wines in the Wine Trail. The climate is a little different from the Guadalupe Valley, for here the humid winds from the Pacific do not reach the valleys with the same intensity. On the way to the Guadalupe Valley you will find small wineries producing signature wines. If you are a wine connoisseur, these wineries will not let you down. Call ahead to reserve your tour to Viñedos Don Juan, Granadia or Vinos Tanamá and be delighted by the exquisite wines making history in and out of Mexico. If you wish to continue on the Wine Trail to the Guadalupe Valley you are only half an hour away. Enjoy the road trip along a narrow valley enclosed by hills. Once at the Guadalupe Valley you may go on other winery tours and compare the terroir of the wines from both valleys. You will be amazed!
